Sacraments

Baptism

We generally celebrate baptism on the first three Sundays of the month at 12:45 pm in the Church. The Baptism Preparation Program for parents is usually held every other month. For more information call the Parish Office at 708-799-5400.

Confirmation

Preparation begins in the middle of the 7th grade year; the sacrament is usually celebrated during the spring of the 8th grade year. Adult/high school confirmation is also available. For more information call 708-799-4550.

Eucharist

Care ministers bring the Eucharist to the homebound. To make arrangements call 708-798-0804.

Matrimony

You can make arrangements by contacting one of the priests at the Parish Rectory. Arrangements a year in advance allow for adequate reservation time, participation in marriage preparation programs, and liturgical planning. For more information call 708-799-5400.

Reconciliation

We celebrate reconciliation on Saturdays from 4:00 to 4:30 pm in the church. Communal Reconciliation Services are held during Advent and Lent. For more information call 708-799-5400.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

This is a several month process for an adult wishing to become a Catholic through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) or through a Profession of Faith. These rites are celebrated at the Easter Vigil. For more information call 708-799-1389.

Sick Calls

Call the Pastoral Care Office to arrange for a hospital visit or for communion to the sick or homebound call708-798-0804. In an emergency call the rectory at any time call 708-799-5400.

Prayer Group

Monday Night Prayer Group meets every Monday at 7:30 PM in the Church. Mass is celebrated every Monday and a Healing Service and Mass is celebrated the FIRST Monday of the month. Everyone is welcome.

Pray the Rosary

Pray the Rosary together after each weekday 8:30 AM Mass.

Assistive listening devices are available for parishioner who have difficulty hearing during liturgies. Contac the Rectory office for more information.

Parish Registration is held the 4th Sunday of the month (except July and December) at 11:30 AM in the Church Hall. In order to register in the parish at least one adult in the household must be Catholic.

Ministries Descriptions

 

Adult Men’s Basketball - This group currently meets Wednesday evenings in the school gym. Male parishioners age 30 and older are invited to play.  For more information, please contact Randy Schmidt at rschmidt12@gmail.com .

 

Adult Mission Trip – This ministry assists victims of emergencies and disasters to return to pre-emergency life.  Recent trips have been to New Orleans for week-long service in rebuilding homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina.  For more information, please contact Amy Pellettiere at Mamie@wans.net or contact Rita Gallagher at Ritagallagher@rocketmail.com.

 

Advent by Candlelight - This ministry provides women a chance to gather for hospitality during the Advent season, and grow in faith through speakers and discussion.  For more information, please contact Amy Pellettiere at Mamie@wans.net.

 

Altar Servers – Children from the 5th through 8th grades in our school and religious education program serve at the altar for all of our liturgical celebrations.  They assist the celebrant and carry out important functions in our celebrations.  For more information, please contact the parish office at (708) 799-5400.

 

Art and Environment – This ministry enhances the church worship environment throughout the various liturgical seasons during the year.  For more information, please contact Leslie Newhuis at lmnewhuis@comcast.net.

 

Athletic Board – The Athletic Board coordinates the many sports programs that are offered to our religious education and school children.  The values of good sportsmanship and fair play are paramount in the eyes of the board and our many coaches.  For more information, please contact Tim Swanson at ptswan714@aol.com.

 

Baptismal Preparation – In this ministry, couples from the Parish meet with parents who are preparing to have their child baptized.  The meeting covers the many aspects of baptism: its purpose, the history and symbolism of the ceremony, and the role of parents and godparents in their child’s religious development.  For more information, please contact the parish office at (708) 799-5400.

 

Block Party – This is an annual event sponsored by ministries and members of the parish.  A Mass is celebrated followed by food, fun and fellowship on the parish campus.  All parishioners, friends and neighbors of IJP are welcome to attend.  For more information, please contact the parish office at (708) 799-5400.

 

Blood Drive – The Parish blood drive program is an outreach of care and compassion to those in need of the gift of blood.  Several times throughout the year, blood drives are conducted.  For more information, please contact Jenny Yast at jryast@sbcglobal.net.

 

Book Group – This group helps women deepen their faith and spirituality through discussion of Catholic, Christian and spirituality-based books.  For more information, contact Amy Pellettiere at Mamie@wans.net.

 

Bridge Marathon – This group sponsors events at which those interested can enjoy an afternoon of playing bridge.  For more information, please check our parish bulletin, The Campanile, for special announcements.

 

Catholic Life Committee – This is a group of parents who work with the faculty and school administration to create a better Catholic school environment at IJP school.  For more information, please contact Jane Peabody at jtctmj@sbcglobal.net.

 

Children’s Liturgy of the Word – This ministry discusses the Sunday scripture readings in a more age appropriate manner with the kindergarten through 5th grade children of the parish during the 9:30AM Sunday Mass throughout the school year.  For more information, please contact Karen Ryan-Danielian at Karen_d33@yahoo.com.

 

Communion Service - This ministry allows those seeking to start their day with Christ to be fed through The Word and receive Communion on Friday mornings at 8:30AM.  For more information, please contact the parish office at (708) 799-5400.

 

Development Committee – This committee is a subcommittee of the school board and explores ways to raise funds for the benefit of the school.  For more information, please contact the parish school at (708) 799-5200.

 

Education Committee – This committee is a subcommittee of the school board and exists to support and enhance the educational objectives of IJP school.  The committee helps to maintain a continuing cooperative effort in providing an optimal learning experience in the Catholic educational community.  For more information, please contact the parish school at (708) 799-5200.

 

Eucharistic Adoration – This ministry promotes prayer through meditation, contemplation, spiritual reading or writing with the Real Presence of the Eucharistic in our church every Monday from 9:00AM to 7:00PM.  For more information, please contact Kristy Traynor at kristray512@aol.com or Erin Isaacson at isaacson7@att.net.  

 

Eucharistic Ministers – Eucharistic Ministers are Catholic lay people who are commissioned by the Bishop to assist in the distribution of the Holy Eucharist at Mass and at home to the sick.  Eucharistic Ministers must have a desire to take their place at the Lord’s Table, serving His body and blood to their brothers and sisters in faith.  For more information, please contact the parish office at (708) 799-5400.

 

Feast and Friendship - This ministry is for individuals, families and seniors of all ages and is designed to bring groups of parishioners together for socialization.  Interested parties can sign up to join a specific group.  Each group will meet four times per year for fun.  Groups may meet in homes, restaurants, parks or wherever else the group decides.  For more information, please contact Tom Vargo at tvargo@yahoo.com.

 

Finance Council – The parish Finance Council provides financial guidance, advice and assistance to the Pastor & Business Manager; including financial oversight and monitoring of budgets and expenditures.  The council also helps with increasing weekly collections and other sources of revenue.  For more information, please contact the Finance Council at ijpfinance@ijpparish.org.

 

Giving Tree – This ministry is a Christmas sharing project in approximately 1000 gifts for needy children and adults are collected each year from the IJP community.  Parish volunteers bring the gifts to various parishes and organizations in the Chicago area.  Volunteers are always needed, especially drivers.  For more information, please contact Chris Schmitt at lcschmitt@sbcglobal.net.

 

Kingsmen Club – This ministry provides After School Enrichment programs offered through the Parent Teacher Organization.  Programs offered may include art, sports, book club and cooking.  Classes are fee-based and are offered at different times throughout the year.  For more information, please contact the parish school at (708) 799-5200.

 

Leadership Training Program – This ministry enables adult men in the parish to mentor and guide 4th through 12th grade boys and young men in the parish to lead faith-filled lives through participating in volunteer activities and learning leadership skills.  For more information, please contact Dennis Cortes at dkcortes@comcast.net or Randy Schmidt at rschmidt12@gmail.com.

 

Lectors – The Lector Ministry proclaims the Word of God, as found in the Sacred Scriptures, to the community of believers during the sacrifice of Mass and at other liturgical celebrations.  For more information, please contact the parish office at (708) 799-5400.

 

Light Weigh – This faith based weight-loss program incorporates the spirituality of St. Therese the Little Flower, and Ignatius of Loyola, prayer and redemptive sacrifice.  For more information, please contact Kathleen Leitelt at kathleenl544@gmail.com.

 

Men in the Morning – This group meets early in the morning one Saturday per month to discuss pertinent topics as they relate to the upcoming Sunday’s Gospel.  For more information, please contact Fr. Mike Nacius at mnacius@ijpparish.org.

 

Military Mail – This ministry keeps in contact with and shows support to parishioners, or family and friends of parishioners, serving in the military.  For more information, please contact Anita Pellettiere at anita_pellettiere@att.net.

 

Music Ministry – The Music Ministry encompasses the organists, the instrumentalists, the Mixed Choir, the Glory Singers, the Celebration Singers, the Resurrection Choir, the Kids Choir and the IJP Handbell Choir.  These individuals work together to enhance and energize our liturgies each Sunday of the year and at funerals and special holiday celebrations.  Our choirs rehearse weekly and offer music from traditional to contemporary.  A new season of rehearsals begins every September and new members are always welcome.  For more information, please contact Dr. Iris Zahara at (708) 799-5400.

P.A.D.S.Public Action to Deliver Shelter offers shelter to the homeless.  PADS volunteers not only provide shelter but also feed the homeless and offer them friendship and assistance.  Countless IJP parishioners have been involved with this worthwhile program.  For more information, please contact Rich Pozdol at pozdolr@hotmail.com.

Parish - The mission of Infant Jesus of Prague Parish, centered in the Eucharistic Celebration of Jesus Christ our Lord, is to nourish the spiritual growth and to enrich the sacramental life of our parishioners so that we can live and witness the Gospel message of faith, hope, reconciliation and love.  For more information, please contact Fr. Parish Pastoral Council – The Parish Pastoral Council meets monthly and is an advisory board that assists the Pastor in the day-to-day operations of the Parish.  The Council helps coordinate the parish ministries through its commissions: Spiritual Life, Parish Life, Education and Human Concerns.  Any adult Catholic registered in the parish is welcome to offer to serve.  For more information, please contact the Parish Pastoral Council at ppc@ijpparish.org .

 

Pastoral Care – This ministry serves the sick of our parish—spiritually, sacramentally, and emotionally—by visiting and bringing Communion to the homebound, to residents of nursing homes and to the hospitalized.  In addition, this ministry assists in helping families prepare for the funeral liturgy at the death of a loved one and supports those who are grieving.  Annually, a special All Souls Day mass is celebrated in memory of all the deceased.  Also, Christmas and birthday cards are sent to seniors of our parish.  If you or a family member or friend in need of the assistance of the Pastoral Care Ministry, please contact Sr. Norlee at snorleeijp@aol.com.

 

Prayer Chain – The prayer chain is a group of men and women who offer prayers for anyone who wishes support in conveying their needs to the Lord.  We pray for anyone who requests support and for many different needs, such as loss of a loved one or health problems. The prayer chain is contacted via e-mail with the intention and each member uses his/her own favorite prayer or offers a charitable deed for the intention of those for whom we pray.  For more information, please contact ijpprayers@aol.com.

 

Prayer Group – This ministry has been meeting each Monday evening at 7:30 for over 35 years.  The evening includes Mass, a prayer meeting in which individuals share God’s blessings in their lives and fellowship.  On the first Monday of each month, the evening includes a healing service.  All are welcome.  For more information, please contact Jack Villari at jkvillari@att.net.

 

Religious Education – Religious Education at IJP takes many forms, depending on one’s age and spiritual background.  Our Religious Education (RE) program enrolls public school children from grades 1 through 8.  This ministry provides these children with the means to develop and nurture their faith life and a personal relationship with God, while preparing them for the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist in the 2nd grade and Confirmation in the 8th grade.  For more information, please contact Ms. Pat Kahl at pkahl@ijpparish.org.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults – R.C.I.A. provides theological, scriptural and spiritual assistance to those who wish to become members of the Catholic Church.  The culmination of this support is the reception of the new Catholics into the Church at the Easter Vigil service, where they receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation).  For more information, please contact Ms. Pat Kahl at pkahl@ijpparish.org.

 

Rosary Group – Praying the Rosary after the 8:30AM daily Mass has been a long tradition at IJP.  Prayers are offered for the intentions of the Holy Father, for vocations to the religious life, for the unborn, for the conversion of sinners, for the sick and the suffering of the parish and for the deceased.  Please join us in this prayer that honors Mary.

 

Saint Vincent DePaul Society – For over twenty years, this ministry has been the outreach of our parish to those in need.  Many times individuals of families have emergency needs or fall through the cracks of various social agencies and organizations.  Our St. Vincent DePaul Society is there to help them.  Those who need assistance are treated with kindness and respect.  For more information, please contact Nadine Garofalo at ngarafalo@ijpparish.org.

 

School – The mission of the IJP School is to provide avenues through which students are able to hear the word of Christ, heed His message and live the Gospel in an environment that stresses quality education, positive self-image and respect for others.  The school plays an important part in the parish community as a visible symbol of a Christian educational community.  For more information, please contact Mr. Dan Smith at dsmith@ijpparish.org.

 

School Board – IJP School Board members are elected for a three-year term from the parish membership.  They assist the Pastor and School Principal in promoting various spiritual and educational initiatives for the children.  The Board also sets school policies and, in conjunction with the Fiscal Board, prepares an annual budget.  Any adult parishioner is welcome to run for the School Board.  For information, please contact Heidi Echols at hechols@me.com.

Scouting – IJP hosts various Scouting programs. TEEN Mass – This ministry encourages teens of the parish to participate in the liturgical roles of lector, Eucharistic minister and music ministers at designated Sunday Teen Masses.  For more information, please contact Tammy McGrath at tammyjo6@sbcglobal.net.

 

Youth Ministry / Teens Growing in Faith – This is a ministry for the teens of the parish.  It has a dual purpose: providing religious education to our teens and, through small group sharing, fostering a sense of belonging to the parish community.  Both public and parochial high school students are welcome to be members of TGIF.  For more information, please contact Trish Ladner at tladner@ijpparish.org.
