IJP School Awarded Two Solar Energy Grants

School officials recently received notice that IJP has been awarded two grants for the 2008 – 2009 school year.  For the second year in a row, IJP has earned a $10,000 BP A+ for Energy grant to continue studying solar energy.  Also this year, IJP was named an Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation sponsored Solar School.  As part of this award, IJP will receive an additional $10,000 in grant funds.  Both grants will cover costs associated with installing a 2 kW photovoltaic system at the school.  In the years to come, students will have a unique opportunity to learn the technology behind the conversion of light into electricity, analyze weather conditions for optimum energy production, and compare data from our system to data from schools all over the county.  We hope that by tapping into the sun’s potential will spark the imaginations of our students to contribute to a more energy independent society and a cleaner, healthier world.
