2010 IJP READING OLYMPICS

IJP 2010 ACCELERATED READER POINT SYSTEM

1. What is Accelerated Reader? AR is a computer based motivational tool to promote the love of reading.

2. How does it work? Students take multiple choice quizzes on the computer after reading specific Accelerated Reader books. You can find out which books are on the AR list by using AR Book Finder (http://www.arbookfind.com/UserType.aspx) or by obtaining a list of AR books (see below). Students earn points for successfully passing quizzes for the book on the computer.

3. What are points? Students earn points by reading books and taking quizzes. Each book read has a certain number of points assigned to it. Students earn points by passing the quizzes on the computer. Students have one chance to take a quiz on a particular book. Points will be tallied on the last school day at the end of each month. Students will try to move up in “the band” based on the following chart. “Olympic Standings” are changed once each quarter.

6. When does AR run? Now until the end of the year

7. How can parents help the AR program? You can assist us the most by encouraging your child to read! Your child might also benefit from an AR folder to keep papers organized. Donations of AR books to the Library will always be appreciated.

8. Where can I find a list of AR books? You can find out which books are included in the AR program by going to the ARbookfind website. You can search for a particular book or search in different categories and grade levels for books that might interest your child. The site will also tell how many points a book is worth. We are attempting to label books in our IJP library that are part of the program, so that children who would like to participate can choose from the marked books. You can, of course, also check books out of our local public libraries or read books that you have at home.
